Offering Safe, Natural Cosmetic Dermatology Services for Boulder, Denver, and Surrounding Colorado Communities
One of the technologies we use to accomplish skin rejuvenation is microneedling. It helps your skin naturally repair damage, including some older damage. Issues such as acne scarring, fine lines, and excessive texture can all be addressed by microneedling. At Rinnova Skin and Body, we use SkinPen II as our microneedling device. SkinPen II is the top of the line device on the market, being more effective than many other microneedling devices.
What is Microneedling?
The SkinPen II is a pen-sized device with dozens of exceptionally small needles in its tip, hence the term "microneedling". The SkinPen II will make a series of microscopic incisions in the skin, which are inconspicuous and not painful. Microneedling uses your body’s natural healing to rejuvenate the skin. Each tiny incision will stimulate your body's natural healing processes, causing your skin to be flooded with your own collagen and other healing substances. In the effort to repair the incisions, your skin will incidentally heal common damage from scars and wrinkle causing damage.
SkinPen II is commonly used to treat facial skin, but it can also be used in a number of other treatment areas to eliminate:
• Fine lines
• Acne scars
• Stretch marks
• Overly large pores
Many Boulder-area patients prefer SkinPen because it is a simple, minimally invasive procedure that requires no recovery time. The procedure itself is quick, painless, and safe.
What to Expect
At a consultation, an aesthetician will discuss your specific goals and treatment options to achieve them. Microneedling can be a part of a treatment plan, with some patients even incorporating it into a monthly regimen as a part of our membership. During the treatment, we will take a picture of the area to help track progress with your treatment. Then the aesthetician will apply a topical numbing cream to the area, and let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour. After you are completely numb, they will pass the pen over the area, allowing the needles to make their incisions. Since the area is numb, the sensation is very similar to brushing your teeth with an electric toothbrush. Afterwards you will be a little red, which may last into the next day. After a few days you'll experience some minor peeling, similar to a light sunburn.
For a week afterwards, you should not spend excessive time in the sun or exfoliate. Other than that, there is no real downtime.
